Meet The Sawdust Sage: Wisdom With Sawdust on Its Boots

Sawdust is just man-glitter, and The Sawdust Sage has accumulated more than his fair share. This is where workshop wisdom meets everyday life—poetry, humor, observations, and the occasional hard-earned lesson from a man who has spent enough time making sawdust to know that neither wood nor life always follows the grain.

The Sawdust Sage™

The Sawdust Sage began with sawdust, but he was never really about woodworking.

He is the reflective voice of James Allen, shaped by a lifetime of working, making, observing, remembering, and occasionally wondering how something that made perfect sense forty years ago makes absolutely none today.

There are no claims of great wisdom here. The Sage has gotten things right, gotten things wrong, and learned that sometimes the lesson doesn't arrive until years after the experience.

Mostly, he notices things.

And every once in a while, something worth keeping comes out of the sawdust.

Poetry in Ordinary Life

Some moments ask to be remembered. Others refuse to be forgotten.

The Sawdust Sage turns everyday experiences into poetry and reflection—work and retirement, family and friendship, growing older, things learned and occasionally unlearned, and memories that look different with a few years between then and now.

Some pieces are thoughtful. Some are sentimental. Others find the humor hiding in ordinary life.

There isn't always a lesson, and there doesn't need to be.

Sometimes it's enough to notice, remember, and put the thought into words.

Sage Reflections

Not every thought needs to become a poem, and not every observation needs an essay.

Sometimes a thought simply needs a place to sit for a while.

Sage Reflections is where The Sawdust Sage™ shares shorter reflections on everyday life—the things noticed, remembered, questioned, or occasionally found too ridiculous to ignore.

There may be humor. There may be nostalgia. There may even be a little wisdom hiding among the sawdust.

Pull up a chair. Stay as long as you like.

James and The Sawdust Sage™

The Sawdust Sage™ is not simply another name placed on James Allen’s work. It is a distinct creative voice—more likely to find meaning in a scrap of wood, wisdom in an old story, or poetry in something most people pass without noticing.

The Sage’s territory is everyday life: work, weather, family, memory, human nature, and the small absurdities that keep us humble. The writing may be reflective, humorous, sentimental, or occasionally sharp around the edges, but it always comes from the belief that ordinary moments deserve a closer look.

James Allen is the person behind the voice. The Sawdust Sage is the perspective from which these particular stories, poems, and observations are told.
